4 Enrichment Classes To Send Your Domestic Helper To That Are Worth The Investment

Help your helper to help you

Some maid agencies like Apex Human Resources provide training courses and workshops for domestic helpers, from training in care of babies, the elderly, and more.

But there's no better time than when you're away on vacation to let your helper pick up some extra skills.

Here are 4 types of classes you can send your domestic helper to.

1. First aid and more

Knowing basic parenting-related skills can come in handy for your family - especially if you leave your kids at home with your helper while both parents work in the day.

Mother and Child conducts two specialised classes ($250) for helpers to learn first aid, CPR, kitchen hygiene and early education techniques.

2. Cooking and baking

Expat Kitchen holds weekly fourweek courses ($475), where helpers can pick up basic kitchen skills plus learn how to make breakfasts, dinners and desserts.

Or, try Small Cooks, Big Meals ($350 for four lessons), led by Jasmin Owen, who speaks English, Malay and some Tagalog.

The enjoyment doesn't end once you return from your holiday - you'll be coming home to good meals every day after that.

3. Swimming

If your child loves swimming, you might want to teach your helper how to swim too.

Tuesday mornings, AquaDucks' instructors help helpers overcome their fear of water and learn basic swimming and safety skills ($10 per lesson).

4. English

Do you find that there's a slight language barrier between your domestic helper and yourself?

Send your helper to an English language class, where she can pick up conversational English. The Foreign Domestic Worker Association for Skills Training (FAST) specializes in such courses ($37.55 for a module consisting of 4 lessons).
